Devon Wildlife Report
Have you been asked by one of the Devon planning authorities to provide a Wildlife Report? Or maybe you have completed a Wildlife and Geology Trigger List a nd answered ‘yes’ to one of the triggers for a Wildlife Report.
At Western Ecology we are experienced in providing Devon Wildlife Reports to support your application and the Devon Wildlife Report will be completed by an experienced ecologist that is a full member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management, and all work will comply with British Standard BS42020 as per guidelines published by the Devon planning authorities.
What is a Devon Wildlife Report?
A Devon Wildlife Report will vary in detail dependent on the likely impacts on ecology. If there is no impacts the Devon Wildlife Report will be a relatively short document that will include a map of the location, a Devon Wildlife Checklist, a short summary of the methodology and a short summary of the results.
If there are impacts, the Devon Wildlife Report will be a more substantial document, similar to an Extended Phase 1 Habitat Survey report, but also including a Devon Wildlife Checklist, an assessment of impacts and a Stand Alone Conservation Statement.
How much will a Devon Wildlife Report Cost?
When providing you with a fee proposal for a Devon Wildlife Report we will need to judge if a project is likely to have an effect, even before we visit the site, as the two levels of reporting will cost different amounts. This can be difficult and if we get it wrong the fee proposal may unbalance your budget for the project. In light of this we will always give a fee proposal with two options, one for a short Devon Wildlife Report for a site with no impacts, and a second for a detailed Devon Wildlife Report with Stand Alone Conservation Statement for a more complex site with impacts. At the time of providing a fee we may be able to give you an indication of which report is most likely.
The cost of a Devon Wildlife Report is calculated based on the site size, travels costs and which level of report is needed. It will also include a fee for a biological records search from the local biodiversity records centre which we organise on your behalf and charge at cost (£120 + VAT) and the Ordnance Survey basemap which starts at £13.95 + VAT.
In practice the variable costs for a short Devon Wildlife Report of a single field within Plymouth, South Hams or West Devon areas for a project with no impact on wildlife would be about £320 + VAT. A detailed Devon Wildlife Report with Stand Alone Conservation Statement for a more complex site with impacts may cost in excess of £600 + VAT.
