What we do
We provide the full range of ecological surveys you are likely to need during your planning application. This includes the initial survey of a site that has many names such as: Preliminary ecological appraisals, extended phase 1 habitat surveys, wildlife surveys, ecological assessments and biodiversity surveys.
If you are only developing a building you are likely to be asked for: Preliminary visual assessment for bats and breeding birds, bat and barn owl surveys, bat surveys or the planning authority may just call it a wildlife survey or an ecology survey.
Following this initial survey, certain phase 2 surveys in relation to protected species may be recommended such as: Bat, reptile, badger, dormouse, otter, water vole, great crested newt, breeding bird, plant and invertebrate surveys.
Finally, when you get your planning permission you may have planning conditions asking for: Species specific method statements, landscape and ecology management plans, ecological mitigation and enhancements schemes, biodiversity mitigation plans and European Protected Species licencing.
Where do we do it?
Although our core areas are Somerset, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall, in last 12 months we have completed significant projects all over the England including Norfolk, Staffordshire, Shropshire, Oxfordshire, Yorkshire, Wessex, Surrey, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Lancashire, Cumbria and Cambridgeshire. We have also worked in Wales in Clwyd, Powys, Dyfed and Glamorgan.
Finally, why do we do it?
Of course we love the field work, its great looking around people’s homes and roaming round the countryside, being outside and amongst nature much of the time peering in hedges and under stones.
But really I suppose we do it for the people we meet. The farmers, home owners, land agents, developers, architects, planners, all hoping to provide a better life for their families and themselves whilst contributing to the local and national economy. We have seen the changes that wise and properly planned development can make to a person’s life. We solve their ecology problems and let them get on with it.
